All applicants must use the appropriate Kean University IRB application form available on this website. There are three categories for submission to the IRB:
- Studies exempt from IRB review
- Studies reviewed through an expedited review process
- Studies that must be reviewed by a convened IRB (full)
Investigators should request the level of review they feel is appropriate for their project. The IRB Chair, in consultation with committee members if necessary, will determine the correct level of review.
All students and adjunct faculty members must be sponsored by a research advisor/full time faculty member of Kean University in order to submit an application to the IRB. If the researcher is not a Kean University student, faculty, or employee, proof of IRB approval from their home institution must be submitted with the Kean University IRB application.
All applicants must complete a web-based tutorial on the protection of human subjects offered as an educational service by the National Institutes of Health (http://phrp.nihtraining.com/users/login.php) and obtain a Certificate of Tutorial Completion. This certificate must be submitted with the IRB application.
All materials required for a complete application (including necessary forms such as consent form, debriefing form, surveys/questionnaires if applicable, tutorial certificate, and any other relevant forms) must be received by the ORSP, both electronically via the online portal and in hard copy with the appropriate signatures, by the close of business on the submission deadline date.
